Argentina has announced plans to launch its much-anticipated golden visa program with applications set to open later this year, with two options unveiled in gaining Argentinian citizenship through investment:

  1. A non-refundable $350,000 contribution to the Argentinian treasury, paying more for each family member. A family of four is likely to come in at around $500,000. In addition, the principal applicant's spouse and children may apply. An additional contribution of USD 100,000 to the National Treasury applies to a spouse and to each child aged 18 to 25 inclusive who has never been married and has no children. Children under 18 may apply by making a contribution of USD 25,000. Adult children are not required to prove financial dependency.

  2. A $800,000 investment into a Government Bond.

Once citizenship has been granted applicants would benefit from visa free access to 169 destinations around the world, including Europe’s Schengen Area, China, the U.A.E. and the U.K. Plus, as Argentina is a G20 nation, applicants will also be able to live or work within South American countries that are part of the Mercosur bloc, such as Brazil, Chile, and Peru.

Citizenship-for-investment programs or “golden visa” programs are nothing new, and have become increasingly common in recent years among cash-strapped countries battling to attract foreign investment. At present Argentinan's Treasury owes $25 billion in foreign-currency debt payments which will be due in 2027 so if expected applicants apply the Argentinaian government could raise upwards of $2.5billion from this program.
