BANSKY THROWS HIS SUPPORT AROUND BLACK LIVES MATTER

Controversial street artist Bansky has unveiled a new piece of art, which is inspired by the brutal killing of George Floyd by Minneapolis police officers and comes amidst a wave of global protests....

Known for consistently taking on the issues at the forefront of our society, and with the Black Lives Matter protests spreading across the globe following the death of George Floyd, a black man killed in police custody in the US on May 25. Banksy's new painting depicts a vigil with a framed photograph, flowers and a candle, which is setting fire to the American flag that hangs above the scene.

Unveiled on Instagram Bansky wrote, "At first I thought I should just shut up and listen to black people about this issue. But why would I do that? It’s not their problem. It’s mine." The artist continued "People of colour are being failed by the system. The white system. Like a broken pipe flooding the apartment of the people living downstairs. The faulty system is making their life a misery, but it's not their job to fix it. They can't, no one will let them in the apartment upstairs." Banksy concluded "This is a white problem. And if white people don't fix it, someone will have to come upstairs and kick the door in."

Bansky's untitled piece has so far received more than 2.45 million likes on Instagram.
