Located on 27 square miles of desert landscape in New Mexico, Spaceport America is Virgin Galactic’s human spaceflight headquarters and center of flight operations.
Funded by the state of New Mexico, and the Sierra and Dona Ana counties, Spaceport America provides cutting edge facilities and a remarkable training location for astronauts, as well as the perfect setting to start and finish the spaceflight itself.
The Gateway to Space building – a signature feature of Spaceport America was designed by the firm of Foster + Partners and acts as the launch prep facility for Virgin Galactic's SpaceShipTwo suborbiter and its WhiteKnightTwo (VMS Eve) mothership and as a very exclusive airport that caters to a select clientele who have forked out hundreds of thousands of dollars for a two-and-a-half-hour flight to the edge of space and back.
Inside the Spaceport is a spacious two-level. The first floor named Gaia - which means “Mother Earth” in Greek - represents the point of departure and return and hosts a variety of lunges and cafe's while while Cirrus on the second floor is home to Mission Control and the rest of the team.
