He has had a dismal last few races and Valtteri Bottas now faces an uncertain summer as he waits to find out his Mercedes future. The Finn now in his third season with the Silver Arrows is fighting to keep his place with Mercedes still undecided whether decide to offer him a new deal during.
While Bottas sits comfortably in second place in the F1 standings, he has slipped 62 points behind his teammate. Bottas has been on a one-year rolling contract since joining Mercedes in 2017 as a sudden replacement for retired world champion Nico Rosberg but this the stakes are even higher as Mercedes have sitting in the wing 22-year-old Esteban Ocon.
Mercedes boss Toto Wolff offered no insight into Mercedes decision conceding the team has a difficult decision to make with Bottas with regards to a contract extension and recent poor performances.
Bottas opened up before the Hungary race stating that: "When contract-wise you're on the limit it never helps. Some people might think that some drivers perform better under pressure, when things are on the limit, but for me it doesn't help, it will be nice to hear some news when the team decides what it wants to do."
