FANCY BOOKING AN UBER TO THE GREAT BARRIER REEF?

Ride-sharing app Uber is expanding its services to Australia's Great Barrier Reef as part of a new eco-experience called scUber

The submarine experience designed to support the protection of the coral reef system through Uber’s new partnership with the organization Citizens of the Great Barrier Reef, will be available exclusively from May 27 to June 18, initially from Heron Island off the coast of Gladstone in the Southern Great Barrier Reef region, and then from the coast of Port Douglas in Cairns, from June 9 until June 18.

For A$3,000 ($2,068), the experience will include guests being picked up from, and dropped off at, your location via the Uber app, then a helicopter ride to the launch point (either Heron Island or Port Douglas), a one-hour ride in the ScUber submarine, and a half-day of snorkeling and touring the Great Barrier Reef.

The tech company has announced it will donate $100,000 USD to the organization and will match the dollar amount spent on scUber rides during the initiative.

There are two ways to experience scUber: for participating countries, you can enter via a global competition explaining in 25 words or less why you should experience the wonder of the Great Barrier Reef with scUber, or riders in selected Queensland cities will have the opportunity to request a scUber ride directly in the Uber app.

For the global competition entries close June 1, 2019 (1.59pm AEST) and winners will be announced on June 3, 2019 (10am AEST).
