Weighing an impressive 555.55 carat's the Fancy Black Diamond will be sold with no reserve by Sotheby's..
Luxury auction house Sotheby’s has unveiled The Enigma: 555.55 Carat Fancy Black Diamond, part of RE(LUX), a Luxury Sale Series. A treasure from interstellar space, The Enigma is an exquisite and extremely rare black diamond.
The largest faceted Fancy Black Diamond known to ever appear at auction, it was listed as the largest cut diamond in the world in the 2006 Guinness Book of World Records. To have a natural faceted black diamond of this size is an extremely rare occurrence and its origins are shrouded in mystery – thought to have been created either from a meteoric impact or having actually emerged from a diamond-bearing asteroid that collided with Earth.
Cryptocurrency will be accepted as payment on the diamond, reflecting the fact that cryptocurrency has started to make its mark in the world of physical art and objects. Sotheby’s leads the way in the jewellery market, and last year The Key 10138 diamond - another rare treasure - was purchased with cryptocurrency for a record price. This diamond will be offered without reserve.
The Enigma, which is on tour now and being displayed in Dubai (17–20 January) before heading to Los Angeles (24–26 January) before ending up in London ( 2–9 February), will be auctioned in a single-lot online sale from February 3 – 9.
